Betty Boop was born in the 1930's as a dog character in the Talkartoon series. Betty was designed as a human-like dog, only her black button nose and floppy ears hinting at her canine nature. These ears later became her round earrings. Her high baby voice, like her spit curls, were an imitation of singer Helen Kane. She was the love interest of a dog named Bimbo. Betty soon became a fan favorite of the show and evolved into the cute character we know today. Her body was modeled after Mae West. For many years after Betty Boop's film debut, she has remained a legendary glamorous icon. From Westland Giftware
